History

The foundations of the Sancerre House probably dates back to the XIVth century, but much of the information available on the building dates from the XVIIIth century. The framework however, which is built like an upside down nave allows us to date the building with more precision. This kind of framework is typical for the area on houses built in the XVth and XVIth century. The same framework is found in the Jacques Coeur house, on the opposite side of the Churchsquare.

The Sancerre House was previously shared by several different owners. The small cellar under the terrace off the garden proves this as it did not belong to the Sancerre House, but to the neighbour’s house. This can easily be seen thanks to the traces on the wall of the terrace where the cellar door once was.
